Reason for coming to The Mayhew: I was found abandoned on the streets of London.

Cats? I am due to be assessed

House Trained? Yes
Period of time s/he can be left alone? I can be left on my own for a couple of hours, I am due to be assessed to see if I can be left alone for longer periods.
Suitable Home? I could live with a first time dog owner proivding they are fully prepared for the hard work and commitment involved in caring for a dog.
Will need to go to training classes? Not essential
Exercise requirements? I need a minimum of one hour of off-lead exercise in a park or open space every day.

Barley is currently living in foster care until his new forever home is found. If you are interested in adopting him you will need to visit The Mayhew first before going to see him in his foster home.

Hello, my name is Barley
I’m a nine year old male, Labrador and Staffordshire Bull Terrier type crossbreed. I arrived at The Mayhew after being found abandoned on the streets of London.
I am a confident and happy chap. Although I'm nine years old I don’t feel or act my age and I'm an active boy who loves to play. My favourite game is ball and I love it when you try and get one from me as I am a playful tease! I am also a real gentleman with good manners and will politely give you my paw for a yummy treat. I am house trained, I know all the basic commands and I know a few tricks too. I get on very well with other dogs. I walk well on lead and when off-lead in the park my recall is good even if I do like to chase squirrels and pigeons. I am now in a foster home where I settled down straight away. Although I love human company I have been left alone for a couple of hours without any problems, I am due to be assessed to see if I can be left for longer periods. I adore people of all ages and although I give a little bark when strangers come to the door, I soon stop to give everyone a nice big friendly hello. I settle down nicely on my bed at night even if I do sometimes sneak up on to the sofa. I also travel well in the car.
I could live with first time owners providing they were fully prepared for the hard work and commitment involved in caring for a dog. I can also live with another dog and I would be happy to live with young children. I will need a minimum of one hour off-lead exercise in a park or open space every day. Although I am a very happy boy, I am longing for a place to call my own so please if you have a space in your home and your heart for a loving family pet please consider me.
