Handsome Barney found himself in the Irish pound back in June 2010, when he came to the UK he was in foster care with other dogs and children.
Whilst in foster he was soon re-homed and loved very much by his new family.

Barney is a lovely boy, a gentle giant, affectionate, friendly and great with everyone.

Sadly Barney is now looking for a new home as his owner is very ill and can no longer care for this big loveable cuddle monster.

this is geting very urgent

Is there no way of getting some up to date photos of this boy?

I hope to visit Barney after the weekend to get some photo's .. I'm looking forward to meeting him again. He was here with me for just a short stay before he went to his present home and I feel so sad for all the family. He has been much loved and cared for.

i looked at this boy when he 1st came into rescue and if i didnt have my boy now i would of had him like a shot

I've been to visit Jane and Barney Bear this morning. And he so suits his name.. He is as huge as I remember him from last year. Barney is no guard dog, he did'nt bark at me. He was pleased to see me and gave me lots of licks. Jane says he has got a voice, and it is a very loud and deep voice, but they don't often hear it, only if he hears something he is not familiar with. He's very much the softie and Jane is soft with him, she says his recall is better when its Kevin her partner who is calling him. He is a dog that needs a firm but loving hand. He is said to be great with their grandchildren, but obviously because of his sheer size, you would have to be carefull around smaller children.

Barney has not been socialised with other dogs much. He has been around a friends dogs and was fine with them. I asked Jane what is he like when he meets other dogs, she says he just goes up to them and sniffs them, but because he is so big she will call him straight away. Barney will pull on the lead, but I really believe that with training Barney will learn lead work easily. He is a big lumbering gentle giant. He likes his play time but loves his rest too. He has been clean in the house and appears to have a cast iron constitution. He is fed mainly on Wagg dog food, he loves his bones. His coat is thick and course, he will need very reqular grooming. He managed last year to get a grass seed in his ear, which required a trip to the vet. At that time the vet estimated his age to be approximatly 2 and a half.

Barney will chase cats.

Barney really needs a home soon. He is very well loved but Jane is finding it difficult to give him the attention he deserves as she is spending so much time up the hospital with Kevin and when Kevin does come home he will need lots of rest and many further hospital appointments.

Aaaaaah love him, he looks great. That is a coat and half isnt it? There has been an enquiry for a big dog via my Vets today, so i will pass on Barneys details (and Ralphs) xxx thats for sending such nice photos

I luv Ed, He's just not bothered about dogs, he's friendly and happy go lucky (although his mum would'nt say that about him)

He decided that he ought to check out this barney dog and see what he's got for dinner .. Barney did'nt mind as you can see.
