Am sooooo happy with our beautiful dog Jacko. Just been for a long walk (he is asleep next to me while I type!) and can see so many improvements day on day.
Ron - do you have any more background about how Jacko was treated before we rescued him? Do you know if he was walked at all on a lead, and why he may not be too comfortable around other dogs? Anything at all would be helpful!
Thanks

Hi again (nice to hear from you skinnybiker, was reading your wonderful story earlier and love Nico/pony he is gorgeous and soo big!!!)
Jacko is ok on the lead and no longer pulls and will heel, sit and wait before crossing the road, and trots along quite happily.
We did try and let him "play" in the park off the lead as thought this may calm him down around other dogs, but he chased barked and fought another dog, so now leave him on his lead when other dogs are close. Then he generally pulls and barks, but sometimes is just really nosey! He is always looking over his shoulders to see where the other dogs are. Makes me laugh lots.
It seems that perhaps Jacko did not get out much of his previous environment, and going for walks outside seems very overwhelming (but really really exciting) for him at times. So guess its just a matter of time!
If we are alone in the woods or fields, then we are happy to have him off the lead and he will come back when called. He is slowly and rather unwillingly coming back to us when we call him when there are other dogs that are in the distance, rather than doing the 100 miles per hour GSD chase to say "hello" to them.
It would be lovely if we could have him off the lead more, but he needs more socialisation, so seeing if we can get over to Okham common on Sunday to meet some more GSDs (he has met a few in the park already and treats them the same as the other dogs i.e. barking & lunging). Think he wants to be Top Dog!!
