mitch playing with my two yesterday

Mitch has settled really well and is now happy with our routine and knows what is expected of him.
He is fully house trained, crate trained and has been left for just over two hours with no problems.
He is a lively young dog and does love to play, hes go with the children and is always excited when they come home from school.
Great with my dogs, will cat test and small dog test him tomorrow

Mitch has been in his new home on Ashdown Forest for an hour and a quarter. He has had a run and a paddle. He is very best friends already with our GSD, and almost with the cat. He is very very happy - smiling! So are are we.

9pm and Mitch has fallen asleep (we've had to wake him and put him in a new postion otherwise he'd wake up with a crick in his neck!). He is still smiling in his sleep. We thought he might be traumatised by the upheaval of moving house - no worries!

Day 2 of Mitchness! Today he met the sheep, luckily they are bigger than him and he didn't seem too interested in them. He'd rather chase the wheelbarrow! Unfortunately Puss Cat is having a tough time, he chases her outdoors, and pounces on her indoors. Bless her she keeps trying to make him a friend.
That's our only problem. Mitch is enjoying walks and meeting other dogs. He delights in water, puddles and streams. He stays close to Jake so we've been able to let him off the lead. He has also been left outside for a couple of hours whilst we picked up the sheep, - don't worry, plenty of sheltered barns and stables for him to wait in (and seek out the cat...)
Photos aren't too brilliant I know, but give a hint of his life. A splendid big THANK YOU to Tina and Graham, he's a very well rounded chap and we take pride in saying 'he's fine with children'. Shaz

Yes those are Turkeys you can see

Here's Hazel the cat keeping her eyes on Mitch

Bless her - she has to leave the room and go upstairs if she wants a proper sleep

Still - progress indeed from last week

Two new pics of Mitch, who is doing so well - except for the horses.
He is still very much a puppy - either asleep or being very fast indeed. Here are two 'tired' pics.

Please can you light a fire?

Dogs aren't allowed on the settees - but children are allowed on dog beds!

Oh Dear. Mitch has broken a toe whilst chasing rabbits. The Vet has advised that he is to be kept quiet and the bandage clean (really it would be easier for me to give up wine and chocolate!).

He did feel very sorry for himself yesterday. Today he is being a little thug!

Well - I know other folk with 'rescue' dogs are having trouble on the pussy cat front. But given time things do work out. In her own little way, Hazel feels sorry for Mitch.

Mitch has now removed 3 splints from his foot. This is despite being on the lead or tied up all the time he was outdoors.

He was so miserable that he did at times turn into a rottweiler - as you can see from this pic

After the 4th visit to the vet in 8 days - our nice vet has suggested we do with out the splint. but Mitch can only have very short lead exercise, plus he is still wearing the plastic bucket collar as he has made his leg sore by constant nibbling at the splint. The bucket collar has somewhat damaged Mitch's blossoming relationship with Hazel the cat. And of course the horses are scared of it....
This is all such a shame as before the broken toe Mitch was making real progress- and as he was so happy - he didn't really realise that he was learning 'discipline'. He now has so much energy (because of lack of exercise) that he is picking up bad habits (chewing, barking). He does have to be left for 4 hours a day before one of us gets back from work, he is not alone as he has Jake for company, but Jake is getting tetchy about being 'bashed' with the plastic bucket collar. Anyway next time I update the site I hope I can give some upbeat news.

Sue - Splendid generous idea! And you could put a note up at your local vets with a pic of the booteess. I'm sure they'd go like 'hot cakes'. And perhaps Ebay. I know there is a big demand for them, the vet treats for a broken toe/foot every week (mostly cos folk tread on their puppies).
Mitch is still on lead only exercise, he spends a lot of time looking out of the cat flap and of course we have to be very careful, as he tries to dart out of the back door when ever we open it. It will be so nice when we can just let him out for a wee and not worry about him chasing the crows. Next Vet appointment is Monday 1st March, and I've got the earliest apppointment!
Good Luck with your venture, I look forward to seeing pics. Shaz
