Aberdeen dog stabbing owner case 'not proven'
A man who injured his pet dog after stabbing it with a knife in Aberdeen has walked free from court.
William Mellis, 31, cut an artery at the base of his Staffordshire bull terrier's tail in February 2010.
He claimed he was trying to protect himself because the dog had turned aggressive.
The charge of him causing unnecessary suffering to the dog was found not proven following a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Graeme Buchanan said Mr Mellis appeared to have been
in a situation where some action had to be taken to protect himself from
the dog.
The trial heard evidence from two police officers who
described the Merkland Road flat in question as being "absolutely
covered in blood
