PostSubject: Anal Glands   Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:42 am

My old Shepherd Cassie use to suffer with her anal glands not clearing out when going to the toilet .. I use to take her to the vets for him to clean them out .. Shocked

Rocky smells slightly round his rear end , I was planning on taking him to the vets as Im thinking he may have the same problem Surprised
Does anyone know of anything , you can do to prevent this ?

I think I remember reading something about bran ?

Any ideas

Thanks

Pam & Rocky xx

this mit help pam http://www.ehow.com/how_4800228_eliminate-dogs-anal-gland-issues.html As mentioned above, check your dog’s stools for size and firmness and adjust his diet to a high residue (cereal based) diet if the stools are too small or soft. You could try adding bran to firm up the stools and bulk them out. A couple of teaspoons a day for a medium sized dog should suffice. Reduce your dog’s weight if he is over weight. These solutions aim to aid natural anal gland emptying. Check anal glands regularly (say once a month) and empty them whenever they feel full

My vet had to do Buddy's one time & BY GOD does it STINK!!!

Lewis, my son was only about 6 at the time, his curiosity got the better of him & he went to have a look at what the vet was doing scratch
.....yep....you guessed it! He got splatted! clown Unfortunately for me I had to take him home in the car! Buddy was happy though lol!
